Just an FYI for those not in the know:
A sabbatical year is a prolonged hiatus, typically one year, in the career of an individual taken in order to fulfill some goal, e.g. writing a book or traveling extensively for research. Some companies offer an unpaid sabbatical for people wanting to take career breaks.

I would take the money, put it in the bank and keep on working, while I'm young enough. One day soon I will be old and not feel like pulling 60 hour weeks. When I retire I don't want to depend on what will probably nonexistent Social Security. Then I want to travel.

I am on sabbatical but not getting paid. I am in West Africa teaching and I leave in less than a week to go to Southern Africa where I will be working with an HIV/AIDS Project. After which I take almost a month to travel to Australia to reflect & chill out, sightsee and visit friends; then on to New Zealand for some more sightseeing; finally the long flight home with a rest stop in Honolulu.
It has been truly wonderful - and sometimes difficult; it has been a tremendous growth experience.
Hopefully, I will be able to do something like this again in 6 years.

I'd sleep for a year, just to catch up on the sleep they deprived me of for the first 2 years of univerisity.

I would go to India or Israel or Egypt. It has always been my dream to go somewhere that can trace it's history to ancient times.
