Not all the Idol contestants have good voices - you know that. That's why they do those goof contestants on the first show each season.
I don't sing well either.
The reason for you and I having this problem is called "lack of talent" - at least as far as voice goes. But, if you really enjoy music, just look to Bob Dylan, Randy Newman, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Joe Strummer, David Byrne, Tom Wait, and a whole lot of other highly success male singers who really, truly, can't sing worth a crap - but they're still great!

Its a combination of things.
1st is natural talent. If you can't carry a tune, or match notes from hearing music, you're probably out of luck and never be able to sing.
2nd, if you can sort of sing, you can take lessons and develop the skills to sing better. There are techniques to sing better and it is a learned skill if you have natural talent. It takes practice and training-- there are muscles and other structures in your body that need to develop to sing really well.

Maybe it's because...You never Sing!! Singing is an art, and you wouldn't pick up a paintbrush and paint the mona lisa in one try, would you? You have to learn to use your voice properly to sound good at all, it's more than just singing. It involves a lot of body parts and breathing properly all in unison to be a good singer.

You probably are you are just letting yourself think that you're not a good singer. That's what I used to think but now I have heard myself in church and I took chorus for one year at school. Don't let your self thinl that you're not a bad singer because you are made in God's own image and likeness and that's what counts.!!!
