My daughter is doing a project on France and we are trying to find out when football (soccer) began being played in France.

May 21,1904 is when FIFA (Fédération internationale de football association) was created in Paris by 7 european countries.
The first French championship was in 1894 and was won by the Standard Athletic Club.

Just to get the facts straight, Soccer is an abbreviation of the word 'Association' as in Association Football, which is the correct name for football, 'Soccer' was first used by Public (...that is private ) schoolboys in England around the 1860's, to differentiate it from the many other ball games (including rugby,,) that were being played at the time. Also plenty of people in the UK use the term, it is English not American. Don't forget that Americans are the very naughty children of the English, and we are not happy about their behaviour.....
