Buy one of each style you see because you won't know which one he likes until you try them out. Just like you probably did with bottles. Then start giving him one with diluted juice or water, he wans to use them, so he'll be excited about his new toy. Love every minute of this time in his life, I sure miss those years.

start by offering him a cup instead of one of his bottles for a day. when he accepts the cup, gradually take away one more bottle and replace it with a cup. this worked wonders with my daughter. if he hasnt used a sippy cup yet you may have to start him out with one that is not spillproof. it will help him get the concept better. but after he gets used to the cup i strongly recommend getting spillproof, they just make life a whole lot easier. Nuby also has some that have a soft spout, kind of like a bottle, if your son doesnt take to a cup very well, try one of these.

Cold turkey it. It will be rough for a couple of days and he might miss milk over it, but he'll eventually come around. You can "grandma" it and give it to him only at bed,but this will drag on a couple of weeks.
We did the cold turkey method with my son. He went to bed with it one night, and the next day he got a cup handed to him.
The Nuby brand is the best to start out on. It has a soft nipple like a bottle.
Good luck.

By the way, my son was 15 months when he came off the bottle. That is when my pediatrician advised me. I get tired of people saying their baby was off the bottle at 6-8 months. That's too young. I think 12 months is a good time if you want to deal with it. I just wasn't going to yank the formula and the bottle at the same time.

when my son was 5 months i started giving him the my first sipster and gradually kept giving it to him and by 8 months i had him off the bottle completely.. just buy one and try it and see if he likes it..if not there are tons of cups to choose from.. they even have the sippy cups with the soft top that helps them switch over.. i dont recommend the munchkin brand they leak.. playtex are about the best i found.. the take and toss ones are really good too.. hope this helps ya..

Don't pick one kind and stick wtih it; he needs to be able to use any kind of sippy spout for practicality. Get several kinds and use them interchangably.

If he's resistant to the sippy, try giving it to him without the valve the first few times to make it easy for him to get the liquid out. AFter he's used to the sippy, try it with the valve in.

To motivate an unwilling child you can, as a special occasion, use chocolate milk or juice in the sippy to make them want to use it.

Also try giving it, at first, when he's really hungry, another motivator to try this new thing.

My son is 9 months and I got him one of those cheap Take and Toss cups. He loves it. I give him water in it while he eats his solid food, even though he still gets bottles. When the bottles go away, he'll already be familiar with cups. I like cups with handles for babies. If your baby doesn't hold their own bottle, you may want to start with a straw cup instead, since it won't require them to tip the cup at all.
