thanks for your answers. I never see any discussions about this and am curious how many newbies there really are. I have always been a crafter, since Carol Duval was on the bozo show.(nothing like dating myself). Making jewlery is a wonderful way to express myself, but it seems like I get my inspiration from other people. I saw a lady in the bead store the other day and she had made a pair of jeans into a work of art with lace and trim and beads. Can't wait to try it!

Beware, beading can be additive.
My best work so far was the recent belly dance outfit I finished for my daughter in December. It is silver and white, and encrusted with several thousand beads and took better than 6 months to finish (I kept laying it down and picking it back up). It is a standard halter top with the cabaret belt, 24 inch bugle bead fringe, and I beaded the outfit in a 'feather pattern'. I also made a hand coverings, and ankle bands in the same pattern.
I am a bead-a-holic, and constantly buy pretty beads without project in mind. Then I will rearrange and reorganize my beads to find colors that look good together. I will drive my husband nuts in the evening because I will sort out by hand a 1000 seed bead mixture by color
Have you gone to an Intergalactic Bead Show?

You can also printout a coupon for admission from this site.
Happy beading.

i have been a bad bead junkie for almost half my life now...i love it though! my pieces im most proud of are combinations of silver, turquoise, coral and buffalo beads that i got at the beade faire. i also do a lot w swarovski crystals. im not way into fancy techniques, i let the beads b the main thing rather than the technique. i did however just find a new beading addiction that i had been avoiding, and it is head pins n eyepins...fun cuz i use all my tools, i can really make some impressive stuff with a minimum of supplies and effort. i teach jewelry classes and i love getting a beginner hooked just like i am :) one of the best things in classes i teach is when a person restrings a piece that was their mothers n they can wear it again...we have had some very touching moments where everyones eyes kinda welled :) beading can b very theraputic, all the colors, the feel of the beads and the playing with them all seem to b very good for a persons well-being...which is nice cuz it makes us less guilty about buying MORE beads when we have pounds upon pounds of them already lol

I love beads, I used to make glass beads. Now I'm focusing on how to adapt beads into my quilting projects. I've also wanted to learn how to do an amulet bag.
Just keep challenging yourself, that is the only way to truly develop new skills and new techniques.

I am a beginner with beads also. I started getting into looming, but got confused as to how to finish the tying of the knot, etc. I am now into making dream catchers. So far so good as I am making them out of yarn instead of regular string. So I guess my dream catchers would be my best work for beading. I am also into plastic canvas, and latch hook.

I too am a bead junkie. You all make stuff far fancier than I do! . I just mainly make bracelets & necklaces. What I love to do most is make bracelets/necklaces to match certain outfits for people. I made a certain necklace for my sister that matches this top she has & she gets tons of compliments on them when worn together :)

I love beading. I make wallets, barrettes, necklaces, vests, etc.
I'm about to start a "bandolier bag" or a shoulder bag that is entirely beaded. I'm just gathering all the beads before I start.

I have viewed alot of craft shows on cable TV. I love crafts as well and I wish I had more time to do them.
If you have a cable company with DIY (do it yourself) demand television- they list TV shows by catagory and I do remember seeing a "Jewelry making" section.
good luck and happy crafting!
