why are the avengers [a 60's uk tv programme] only available on region 1 dvds?

and the way things are going...will just about every classic tv series be coming out on dvd?

The studio putting them out is A&E home video, which is a North American studio. That is why they are in Region 1. If you live in Region 2, you could try getting a multi-region player, but your TV must be able to play NTSC. You can buy the multi-region players off of Amazon.

The answer to your second question is yes, if there is money to be made the studios will capitalize on it.
