I was wondering about people working in programming jobs in particular...

I know that all this is normal, but there are days when I feel like I've crossed the limit.

There are some days, where I plan on accomplishing say tasks 1, 2 and 3 that are very small and should take maybe an hour or so. But then I get stuck at a point, very close to the finishing the task. I try to fix it, fix it to some extent, but not completely. I end up extremely frustrated, stressed out and exhausted because I'm so close to finishing it, so can't give up, but can't continue because I can't do it anymore.

rafaelbortoletto, you are absolutely right. Asking for help is something that I have always had trouble with. I can't seem to ask unless I reaaalllly reaally need it. Yeah, I think I need to start working on that.

Ody, I think you are also right. I need to walk away, waay before I reach my breaking point. This is also another thing that I need to work on.

when i *hit* a wall, i go outside, take a stroll, dont think about it too much... let ur mind wonder about the problem, then suddely u get other ideas or a different direction to tackle the problem,....

bottom line, u need to walk away for a good 1/2 hour or so...

Sometimes I feel the same thing as you do because it is always hard to find yourself in a situation in which you didn't complete a task for some reason. But usually I try to leave my job at my work as long as I can. If I didn't do something I just think how can I do that on the other day because we are not perfect and sometimes it is better to go home and come back on the other day and face the same problem because the solution can be quite simple but you are so stressed, frustated and exhausted that you don't see it. Also requesting for a friend's opinion at your job can help you a lot in situations like this 'cause they won't be so involved in solving the problem and they can suggest you other alternatives that you didn't think at that time.

Leave your job at work. If you stress out at home about work, your life is really going to suck in every regard (physical, emotional, sexual). You don't finish something, oh well. Tomorrow means a new day and a fresh mind to attack a problem. Always helps me in IT and in teaching myself programming. (p.s. always looking for help in learning programming)

if your experiencing overwheliming stress or anxiety, here are a few tips:

see your doctor about getting an anxiolytic like effexor or xanax..
xanax is very calming..my uncle was prescribed this after having heart surgery and he also said it helped relieve his IBS

also, take deep breaths and drink plenty of filtered (NOT ICE COLD!!! IT IS A SHOCK TO THE SYSTEM)
warm water is better (think 98.6 deg)
