Try:
A fitted lacy black tank under a cropped band sweatshirt with dark jeans. Then just add some Hot Topic-esque accesories, but nothing too gothish--we're going for sexy emo here, not creepy-girl-who-doesn't-associate-with-the-likes-of-you chic.

What sort of 'dance' is it going to be? Is it a 'school dance' or a 'prom' or is it just some friends getting together in a 'dance place'? FIND OUT, and also ask 'What should I wear' from several of the other people of the same gender you are who are going ... then you'll 'know' what you should wear, too.

why not wear a kind of 50's style skirt and cardigan, hair in a pony tail and put fingerless gloves and black nail polish with it? you know, add your own rocker touch. that way you can be funky, be you and not be conforming to everyone else? pink and black would look great.

Wear something vintiage, go to the upscale thrift shops in town. Then no one will be wearing the same thing as you! :)
