Baking Soda works great and is as cheap as it gets. You can
also use vinegar, but you have to watch out so it doesn't spill.
Also it doesn't smell as good.

There is something much better - charcoal. Charcoal - I have the perfect product that I've used for years and know dozens of other people that use it. It is a product called FRIDGE IT odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great. It works so much better than baking soda and all those sprays and fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Also, alot of sprays have warning statements about being eye irritant. WIth Fridge-IT, The carbon literally absorbs and eliminates the odors and works for a long time. Just place a couple of these in your pantry. I use this product everywhere including car, storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box, car for smoke and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it. Definitely worth trying.

I put baking soda, Borax or dry carpet freshener (whatever I have on hand) in the bottom of my trash container under the plastic liner in my pantry. Every time I empty the trash, I empty it out into the trash l'm throwing away and add new. It always smells nice in there, even when I've had potatos that were going bad. If you don't keep your trash in your pantry, just fill up a bowl with any of the above and empty it out every week or so.

If you have a light fixture in your pantry, this would be perfect for you!
The fresh 2 is a CFL with a new "twist" - Titanium Oxide mixed into the glass part of the lamp provides a natural deodorizer as the lamp runs, eliminating any smells!
Bulbs are sold in packs of two and are $20.00 per pack, but... each bulb is guaranteed for three years! (compare that to how many boxes of baking soda you would need to last that long!)

You might consider louvered doors.or installing some kind of vent in the existing door. Air cirulation will help.
good luck
