I've asked the interviewers:
How many people have held this job?
What room for advancement is there from this position?
How long have you held your position here? What is your management style?
Do you enjoy working for this company? Why?
I want to know if I'm applying for a loser or dead-end job. I want to know if my manager has experience and is fair, and I want to know if the company is ok to work for or not. If you're not completely desperate for a job, I try to interview them as much as they interview me.

Note: This response may not apply to a first job.
Questions asked during interviews should be questions which help you find out whether you are a fit for the job, and to find out the degree of interest the company has in your skills. The higher paying the position, the more strategic and business-savvy the questions and answers.
As a software contractor, I ask questions which enable the client and myself to SCREEN ME OUT of a job fit as quickly and efficiently as possible! The purpose of my questions is to discover whether I can solve their business needs. If not, I talk to another client. If there is a fit we discuss rates and contract terms.

Ask the person interviewing you what is the hardest thing about this job?
Ask them do they enjoy what they do?
What are they looking for in their next employee?
Ask what is the least thing that they like?
PUT THEM ON THE SPOT!
