Good question. It is said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. does that equate to truth as well? For this one I am going to have to say a photograph for the following reasons - 1) a photograph is taken at a point in time, a mirror view is ever changing; and 2) what you see in a mirror is reversed and not really true as you appear to others.

Photographs appear to distort the subject much more than mirrors do, since we compensate automatically with the moving images in mirrors. A photo taken at a greater distance will have less of the 'big nose' type of distortion you mention.

Spots show up in photographs more easily than mirrors because the colour contrast is much greater in a photograph.

The mirror may be the more accurate image, but I would still not say it is a true image. You will always get a slight colour distortion in a mirror and they are usually under indoor lighting conditions too.

well everything you see is just a point of view. I'd say the reflection in the mirror is the truth. it is all angles and all sides at once reflecting back at you the image you see of yourself, where as a picture is but an angle of yourself or a piece of yourself captured for all time. Now if the mirror is angled itself it would give a false image by distorting the reflection. Try this if you have a digital camera take a picture of you with the camera angled down, you should look thinner, and if you have the camera angled up it should come out larger. you see you can control the camera where you can't control the reflection.

A photo displays a different type of image then a mirror, and things can happen to your style ad you probably got the picture taken some what after looking in the mirror, or what position the photography was taken in.

The mirror tells you the version you will see most often. The photo shows the outer you that others see. A photo can feel slightly off because you are used to a reversed image of yourself. No person is perfectly symmetrical so a photo can be subtly different, and that can be disturbing.

Both are accurate. However, a human usually looks better in the mirror because he or she will adjust facial expressions to look his or her best while looking in the mirror. Getting a picture taken is more natural because you can't adjust your facial expressions to look as perfect as possible (unless you can see yourself while taking the picture). A video camera is probably your best bet because it gives the overall appearance and is not limited to a single moment in time.

The camera is not judgemental. When you see a photograph you are usually in a different mindset than when the photo was taken.

But then again, you cannot edit a mirror image.

It really depends on your mood that day. It's like you're never suppose to practice a speech infront of a mirror because when you're confident you think you're doing so good when you're really not. Somedays you may feel good so you look good. Always think positive. As for pictures it could be the lighting or camera angle.
