I will assume you have a cd burner, my guess would be that the blank you are using isnt compatible with the burner, or, the blank is bad. Use cd-r cds and dont by bargain pack off brand names!

CDs are a funny lot, Unless they are just about perfect they aren't going to work very well. I don't use rewritables I would rather buy lesser expensive CDs but they are one use and if I screw one up I file it in 13 and just start over. Office Depot sell their brand very reasonable like 50 for about $10.00 that works out to about 20 cents apiece.

are you using a rewritable CD with the - or + on o you have the software to burn files onto that type of cd you say your using a rewritable CD but you dont say what type

Maybe it's not a rewriteable file, so the laser in the CD Rom is not reading it. I think that's the reason.

if your computer has 2 cd drives try the other drive it happens to me sometimes if that is not the answer, try a different cd

try using a normal cd

Reformat the cd and erase it all over again, there is probably some data left on that cd and that is why it is not recognizing it. Good luck.

You need to prepare the CD for PWP (Packet Writing Protocol). If you don't, you end up with the error you're getting.

You need extra software to burn data to cd/dvds. Nero, roxio etc..
