I am trying to write files to a CD but my computer is telling me there is no CD in the drive. I am using a rewritable CD and I am sure that there is nothing on the CD. What can I do?

I will assume you have a cd burner, my guess would be that the blank you are using isnt compatible with the burner, or, the blank is bad. Use cd-r cds and dont by bargain pack off brand names!

CDs are a funny lot, Unless they are just about perfect they aren't going to work very well. I don't use rewritables I would rather buy lesser expensive CDs but they are one use and if I screw one up I file it in 13 and just start over. Office Depot sell their brand very reasonable like 50 for about $10.00 that works out to about 20 cents apiece.

Maybe it's not a rewriteable file, so the laser in the CD Rom is not reading it. I think that's the reason.

Reformat the cd and erase it all over again, there is probably some data left on that cd and that is why it is not recognizing it. Good luck.

You need to prepare the CD for PWP (Packet Writing Protocol). If you don't, you end up with the error you're getting.
