Hi, I'm a 17 year old high school senior from North Jersey. I'm looking for a job as a waiter, but I'm lost to how to get one. Although I've never had a job as a waiter before, I believe that I'm highly qualified. In school I'm on the national honor society and I'm a very energetic and charismatic person. I've searched about five online sites for jobs, but I haven't found anything. Does anyone have any advice for how to get this job or where to search?

Waiting tends to be the kind of job you just walk into a place and apply.
Check the place out first - (see if they've got a "Help wanted" sign!) - and make sure you dress clean & neat. (and remember, the fancier the restaurant, the nicer you need to dress AND the harder it will be to get the job!)
Best of luck

Practice carrying several dishes at once, --without dropping any of them-- walking reasonably fast. If you can't manage that, you may wind up having to take a job as dishwasher, until you polish the talent. Then, if you've been a congenial, faithful, & honest employee, you can apply when they have another waitress opening. They'd be more apt to hire someone they know they can trust to work with their patrons ...

hiya, good jobs in the service industry are rarely advertised! the best thing to do is print off lots of copies of your cv and go round to lots of nice restaurants and ask to speak to the manager. ask if they have a job! also ask what's the pay per hour and how do they split the tips? if there is service charge and you don't get any of it, don't bother!
Also, check whether there are any perks, like staff meals included.
and you probably won't finish work till after midnight so be sure of how you will get home aterwards. You don't usually need previous experience to get the job, so long as you come across as friendly, smart and keen to learn. good luck!
oh, and i wouldn't listen to the guy that said work as a potwash first, i don't know any that changed over to being waiters! they work more with the chefs anyway.
oh yeah, and call them back after a week. that always looks good, makes you appear keen.

Go to the businesses that you would most like to work at and fill out an application. Stay in touch with the person doing the hiring to show your interested.
Try the Unemployment Agency in your area too. They have listings according to business, location, experience needed,pay.. etc. All the info you need in one stop!
Check the classifieds in your local paper and if there are free papers with community info. in them look in those too! You never know what you will find!

Be willing to start off as a host. It is great you are a friendly person; guests would love to see a friendly person greeting them. Restaurants would start you off as a host then train you as a waiter if they see you got the potential. Open the phonebook and call the restaurants (especially chain restaurants in your area) then apply at the ones that are looking for hosts.

Go directly to the places you would like to wait tables and fill out an application.
Keep in mind that at 17, you will not be able to serve alcohol, so your best bet is to apply where they do not serve alcohol.
