My family is coming to visit me in London. My grandfather has a hard time getting around, so the tube is out of the question. My question is what would be the best way for them to get from the Heathrow airport to Kensington. I checked out the busses, and it looks like that would involve a lot of changing and walking. I also found where they could book a company that would pick them up at the airport, but I didn't know if there were any other options, possibly less expensive? Thanks!

Heathrow Express to Paddington
Heathrow Connect to Paddington (a 'local' version of the express)
Airport Buses
Taxis
Mini Cabs
Tube (which you said no to)

But the key part of your question was saying that your 'family' is coming to visit. How many in the family? If it is 3 or 4, then a cab may be the most economical option. At about £50 to central London, that works out to about £12 a person, which is cheaper than the trains+cab (after Paddington) and maybe even bus+cab.

It's also pretty easy. Mini-cabs might be cheaper, but I'm not sure if they are as easily accessible for someone with difficultly moving as a big black London cab.

Good luck.

Since your grandfather can't get around well the only option is probably a taxi. The cheapest way to get a cab is to book a mini-cab ahead of time. You'll need to tell them how many people and if there is a lot of luggage so they have a car that's big enough. It may be cheaper to call mini-cab companies in your neighborhood rather than airport based ones. Call 3 or 4. Prices sometimes vary widely.

Taxis are the only option you have. I would recommend you get a local taxi firm (get a number from the information desk in the terminal) as they are usually cheaper than the black taxis outside the main terminal.
