I'm not decided on this yet but I do differ from the talk radio opinions I've heard. There is no reason we shouldn't explore ethanol, Perhaps they can stop subsidizing farmers if we do. There are liberal programs right now that pay farmers to leave ground dormant so that the price of grain stays up. The mash that's left over after the ethanol has been extracted makes an excellent feed for cattle and pigs. I think it's an interesting experiment.

Ummm... in case you haven't realized we have a bad dependence on foreign oil. If we could dilute gasoline with 70% ethanol we'd save a lot of money. I say you should grow corn for food first, and use the surplus for gasoline. Despite huge corn yields in the US, however, we do not have enough for food and to manufacture ethanol if 50% of the households in the US' cars consumed ethanol right now, although I believe with good policy we will in the future.

We're the biggest producers of corn in the world. Turning it into fuel will let us corner the fuel market without having to occupy the entire middle east.

We don't need the corn for food - if we did, the ethanol subsidies wouldn't have tripled the price of ADM stock.
