PDF stands for "portable document format" and it is the file extension for an Adobe file (the 3 letters after the "dot" at the end of the filename is the file extension and tells your computer what program to open it with. In order to read it, you need Adobe Acrobat.

In order to create a .pdf file, you need Acrobat Reader Pro or Acrobat Distiller. The best way to see if you have the capability to create .pdf files is to look on your computer to see if you have either of these programs installed on your computer. Another way is to open Microsoft Word (I'm assuming you have that installed) and see if you can 'Save As' a document as a pdf file. You also might have an Adobe Distiller icon somewhere at the top of your Word window. If you hover your mouse over the buttons without clicking them, tool tip text will appear letting you know what the buttons do.

By the way, your bosses want the quote as a .pdf file because you can't edit them once created. So you don't send out a quote and the recipient changes its content.

Write back if you need more help.
