Im a Catholic, so im not sure if this is true. This show on Discovery channel claims they found the location that Jesus Christ was supposedly buried. I havent read much of the Bible, but I think it says that Jesus ascended into Heaven after he ressurected, therefore, he cant have a tomb. Even so, when he died, they just put him in a cave, and the show says that this is his family tomb. The show is contradited by the Bible, or vice versa. What do you think about this whole deal?

Filmmaker James Cameron is claiming he and some archeologists found the tomb of Jesus’s family. All the casket-like things called ossuaries are empty. I wonder what the archeologists were thinking when they found an ossuary with Jesus’s name on it. I can imagine the moment they removed the lid and looked in. If it were me, I’d wonder if I was going to see one of the following:

1. Nothing
2. Decomposed stuff
3. Jesus sitting up and saying, “What in Dad’s name took you so long?”

If you put an ordinary guy in an ossuary for 2,000 years, he’d clearly be dead. But if I were opening that ossuary I’d be wondering if maybe someone put Jesus in there after he died but before he arose. And maybe it’s hard to get out once you get in. I’d be worried that Jesus arose inside the stone box, and he’d be totally pissed that no one let him out until now.

I realize that this would not be the most rational worry in the world. But I like to base my worries on an expected value calculation. So for example, a 90% chance of getting a sliver would worry me about the same as a .000001% chance of a nuclear bomb going off in the backyard. In this ossuary example, I’d be looking at maybe a 2% chance of waking up an angry Jesus. I say that’s worth a worry.

If Jesus was in there, and sat up when I took the lid off, I’d first try to judge how angry he looked. If he had that money-changers-in-the-temple look, I’d go with a joke, like “Ha ha! Turn the other cheek!” Or maybe I’d try to explain to him that the extra suffering was extra good for humanity, and after all, that’s his job. Then I’d say, “Hey, I don’t like my job either, but you don’t see me complaining all the time.”

I know that some of you will say that if Jesus could move that big rock that was allegedly in front of his tomb in the traditional telling of his life, he’d have no trouble removing an ossuary lid. But he wasn’t supposed to be in an ossuary in the first place, so obviously if this ossuary is genuine, some of the details of the story were wrong. And if God let Jesus be crucified, it’s not a huge stretch of the imagination to think he’d let him stay in a stone box for 2,000 years. It makes sense to save your coolest miracle for when it’s needed most. And I think you’ll agree that this would be a good time for a messiah. And if you were God, you’d want James Cameron attached to this production. So it makes sense to me.

That’s why I’d be a crappy archeologist. I’d be afraid to open anything.

Well, It may or not be real. The historical Jesus is hard to establish outside the Xian Bible. As for the Resurrection and Ascension these are matters of faith and faith cannot be proven or disproved by fact, it is faith.

The tomb featured on Discovery channel is not proof of his life or disproof of a his Resurrection. The names of Jesus, Joseph, Mary, and Judas where too common to say authoritatively this is the grave of the persons referred to in the Xian Bible.

If it is the tomb of the historical man Jesus, we should remember that the account of the physical Resurrection and Ascension where not recorded till years after is death. Many of these fantastic story could have developed as myth and legends that explaining something timeless about the person. Much like the story of Gorge Washington and the cherry tree tells of his honesty.

I am personally looking forward to reading more about this find, but I am skeptical of any Holy Land finds. Look at what happen with the James Ostuary - most likely a fake.

It's about the movie director, James Cameron, making a ton of money on a lot of BS. I saw a piece on this on ABC news. The guy who originally discovered the tomb found it in 1982, or so. He said that the writings prove nothing, because the names Mary, Joseph, Jesus, etc., were common names back then and have been found on many, many other tombs. He said there is no proof that this finding points anywhere near to our Jesus or our Lady. This is just a lot of hoop-la so James Cameron can make a nice buck.

They did not--I have the tape--say Jesus Christ. They very carefully said Jesus and also they said Mary. They also mad a point that both were common names in the era of the Jesus of whom you speak. Also, they found a Family's Ossuaries, not a sepulcur.

Lighten up, no church should be destroyed because on the third day Jesus rose from the dead and hung around for a while. The Bible is not perfect or consistant and the church of Jesus continues.

This is why it is IMPORTANT to study the very bible of the God you believe in. We have been in the Last Days since the death and resurrection of Christ. God warns us in the bible that there will be many false prophets in the land. Many people will come and either tell you they are Jesus or that they've found evidence that refutes his existence all together. Don't be deceived! The tomb of Jesus is a demonic hoax set up by the agents of Satan (humans who want to do away with the knowledge and existence of God). Please! I implore you and anyone who has accepted Christ as Lord and Savior, KNOW GOD'S WORD! There will be many who will come in the name of Jesus (and has already) to deceive and harm anyone who professes the name of Christ. You have to be ready and full of God's knowledge in order to stand in that evil day or you will deny God by believing a doctrine that isn't His. BE AWARE!!!

Jesus rose out of Joseph of Aramathea's tomb. He rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven. This so called 'discovery' is a big hoax.

The tomb, probably a hoax. But who knows, everyone who knows for sure died a long, long time ago.

firstoff, you make catholics look bad by not knowing what happened to our Lord and savior,

second, i think its a load of crap.

Jesus was a common name number 1, and most of the arquelogists there said it doesnt say Jesus, that it says something completely different.
