My baby is one month old and he wakes up for a bottle ( I am formula feeding) about 3 sometimes 4 times a night. I wanted to know if this is normal? Also I have been sleeping on the couch and letting him lay on my chest and he sleeps very well there. Is this ok or will this lead to problems with him going into a crib? And last is there chat rooms or something to just talk with other moms? Thanks for any help!

I am slightly elevated on the couch when he sleeps on my chest. And his face is always to the side so he wont have problems breathing but I am going to try and put him in his bassinet tonight. I don't move when I am sleeping on the couch but I don't want him to have a dependency on me to sleep. During the day he naps in a bouncy chair or his swing. He just moves so much when he is in the bassinet is the baby moving alot while sleeping normal? He doesn't seem to like his bassinet and doesn't like his arms swaddled, ugh! He is beautiful though. Thanks for all the answers. :)

His waking schedule is normal as he grows and eats more at one time he will wake up less often.... As for him sleeping on your chest, it is a very dangerous habit to start. You take the chance of him rolling off or you accidentally turning on him and suffocating him....nobody ever thinks it will happen but it does happen. He is safest in his crib and it will lead to better sleep habits for him if he is in the crib. Good Luck.

It was a little scary for me when I had my first and my second too .
Yes, what you're doing is very normal. The baby needs to energize himself every 3 to 4 hours. Forget about sleeping thru the night for a while yet but he'll get there, don't worry. What is right at this time, is what you feel the most comfortable with. If you enjoy the feeling of your child sleeping on your chest and he likes it then find...do it. Things will change very fast with a child so what you're doing now you most likely won't be doing in two weeks. So relax. If you really are unsure, call your Dr. If he is too busy to speak with you, his nurse probably knows exactly what you mean or what you want to know. Never feel too dumb or embarrassed to ask a question. Others have probably asked the same thing already. Remember this is all new to you and you won't have all the answers. A lot comes with experience, some by advice from others, and some you still wonder about. Ask your Dr. if he knows of a mother's group that is or has formed in your area. That way you can get out, meet other people in the same boat, and get your questions answered too. I'm sure there is also something on-line but in person is so much better. They get to see your child....what a joy.

It is hard to say what is normal or not since every baby is different. That does sound like he is waking up a lot since you are bottle feeding. I want to say 1-2 times in the night is more like it since they eat about every 4 hours. It will get better as he gets older and before you know it he will basically be sleeping through the night. For the second part of your question I would have to say that it is probaby not a good idea to keep the baby on your chest to sleep for the same reason you said. It can become difficult to get him to sleep by himself in the crib and he may become upset if you are not there when he wakes up. Since he is so used to you being right there for him, he may have trouble learning to self soothe. Im sorry but I have not visited any mommy chat rooms, but im sure there must be some out there. Good luck and congrats.

Well, my little girl will be 4 months old in 2 days and about three weeks ago she finally started sleeping all night long. Before that she was waking up at least 3 times a night for a bottle so yes that is normal! All babies are different and it may take some time for him to sleep all night but the time is coming I promise! And about him sleeping on your chest could be a bad thing! They used to let my neice sleep like that and when she got older that was the only way they could get her to sleep because the baby gets used to hearing your heart beat and he will not want to go to sleep any other way! If you have anymore questions please feel free to email me at felicialuvsbilly@yahoo.com My youngest is almost 4 months and my oldest is 3 years old!!! So feel free to email me with any questions!

Congrats on the new baby!!! I have 2 Girls, one is 4 and one is 10 months. It is very normal for babies to get up that many times in the night for a bottle. Their little tummys dont last long. That will go on for quiet a while and when she gets older she will start to sleep throught the night. My 10 month old just started to sleep during the night. It gets a little frustrating!!! If your baby is comfortable with sleeping on your chest, thats becuase he/she can hear your heartbeat that they have being hearing inside your tummy for the past 9 months and its very soothing!!! Thats why they sleep well there. Its fine when they are little to do that, but Mabey keep it to a once in a while thing when they are older. Cause eventually you might have problems with sleeping in a crib. Sounds like you are doing very well!!!
There are chat rooms for mothers, I cant remember which ones, but I would try like Parents Magazine, website, or yahoo search it and something will come up. Good Luck and congrats on that cute new bundle of baby!!

3 times a night is normal. Usually 2 to 3 hours in between each time for new babies.

Laying on your chest? Just watch out for puffy clothing. Try to sleep a little more upright and not flat. It could lead to trouble with the crib, but it may also not. I would not do it for too long.

I wouldn't recommend letting him sleep on your chest when you are sleeping. If you were to turn over he would fall or he could smother his face in your chest because it is warm and suffocate.

Babies that young still eat every 2-4 hours or so. When he is about 6 weeks things will change and again at 2 months. Then every month after that his schedule will change again. Just stay flexible you will be okay. You never really catch up on sleep but you get used to it!

He should eat every 3 to 4 hours until he's 3 mo. old. Some times he will eat more often, but don't let him go longer than 4 hrs. until he's 3 mo. If he does not wake up, wake him up to feed him. Everyone's opinion about him sleeping on your chest will be different......there is a HIGH risk of SIDS if he's sleeping face down....babies need to sleep on their back so they don't re-breathe their air...that can cause SIDS. I'd also bet you are SO tired and may accidently roll over and spill him off of you. Your best bet is to keep him in a crib/cradle on his back, right next to your bed or the couch (if that's where you are sleeping). It's nice for him to be snuggly and warm on you, but he will need to learn to sleep alone (unless you are going to co-sleep for a long time) and it will be MUCH easier to get him to sleep alone now while he's still so little.

Babies eat a lot when they are young. It is normal. My first wanted to sleep on my chest all the time too. My only recommendation is to lie on cushions on the floor (in the event you sleepily roll over he doesn't fall).

Eventually the baby will go to the crib when he starts sleeping through the night (usually 3-5 months old)

Good luck, you're doing fine!

The getting up every 3 hours or so is very normal for a newborn. I used to sleep with my son on my chest too, not everynight but sometimes it was just plain easier. I tried to at least put him in his crib at bedtime everynight and at naps during the day so he would be used to sleeping in his own bed.
