how come there are tax implications for married couples then?
Should all legal rights for married couples be overturned then and marriage only be recognized by the church you belong too?

Bob, in using logic. I would suggest that marriage gives individuals additional consented rights over other individuals. Example, you can have your wife put to death over her mothers objections if she is in a state of zero brain activity(brain dead) and he body cannot sustain life on its own.
Also, the last time I checked, Income tax isn't in the constitution or any of the amendments but its still controlled by the Feds........

Neocons don't recognize gays. Except when Foley was exposed by the media.
Did I see that right - "granted by the church under the US constitution"?? Hello!!

Marriage is a right? Funny, couldn't find that in the Constitution or Amendments. Can you tell me where it is proclaimed a right?
Otherwise they have all the rights as everybody else, even the right to marriage. Like everybody else, they are completely free to marry any unmarried adult of the opposite sex, and are subject to the same limitations as everybody else.
Now, you might say it is unfair, and I'd agree. But simply being unfair does NOT make it illegal or unconstitutional.
So, tell me how are they lacking any rights?
And please use logic, reason and facts.
----
Response: So marriage gives people rights. All the people of this nation are allowed to marry (with some exceptions) anybody else of the opposite sex. Everybody has this right. Nobody is denied this right. Thus it is an equal right for everybody. Just because some people don't want to marry a person of the opposite sex doesn't mean they are deprived of any rights.
It's pretty simple, really. Just because some people view the prohibition against same-sex marriage as unfair, it does not make it wrong, unconstitutional or a deprivation of rights.
Oh, and as for federal income tax, read the 16th amendment. It starts "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes...."

MARRIAGE IS A RELIGIOUS RIGHT. NOT A LAW. SHOULD GAY'S THAT PRETEND TO BE STRAIGHT PAY A DOUBLE TAX? SHOULD THE MEN/WOMEN THAT ARE MARRIED FOR CONVENIENCE AND ARE INVOLVED IN GAY RELATIONSHIP ON THE SIDE BE DOUBLE TAXED? AGAIN MARRIAGE IS NOT A RIGHT. IT'S AN OPTION FOR STRAIGHT PEOPLE. ARE THE HOMO'S BECOMING STRAIGHT PHOEBES? WHY DO THEY WANT TO ACT OUT AS HOMOSEXUALS THEN DEMAND THE PERKS OF A STRAIGHT LIFE STYLE. THEY DESERVE NOTHING BUT A HARD WAY TO GO. WHY SHOULD WE BE MADE TO ACCEPT HOMOSEXUALITY? IT'S NOT A RELIGION, IT'S NOT A RACE, JUST BECAUSE THEY WANT TO ACT LIKE DEGENERATES WE DON'T HAVE TO ACCEPT IT. IT WAS BETTER WHEN THEY STAYED IN THE CLOSET. MAYBE THEY SHOULD ALL MOVE TO AN ISLAND WHERE THEY CAN DO WHAT EVER THEY WANT AND THEY DON'T HAVE TO IMPOSE ON THE STRAIGHT AND NORMAL PEOPLE OF THE EARTH. POLITICAL CORRECTNESS IS HYPOCRISY.

Marriage isn't a right. But by your logic single people should pay 1/2 taxes. And since I've never used food stamps, been on welfare, got college grants, used Medicare, used Social Security, I shouldn't be paying hardly any taxes at all. Count me in.

Men who have sex with other men don't constitute as a race of people. The laws have always been on the books. It's you who is trying to change the law. Gay people should not get marital benefits!

Not an unconditional right. You can't marry your cousin, you can't marry your sibling, and you can't marry someone of the same gender as you. Your rights are not without limits.

No. Homosexuals do not have the right to gay marriage, until States, which regulate marriage, give them that right.
And considering that married people without children, who both work are actually PENALIZED under the IRS code, my heart is not bleeding here.
The only benefits to marriage, which cannot be contracted between 2 consenting adults, are SS benefits. And those two individuals still get their SS benefits, on their own records.
And these benefits are for the well-being of children. Society really needs to start factoring in the needs of children, when we speak of "rights."
EDIT: With regards to women, as you added, they do not have protected status, either. They have intermediate protection, not strict scrutiny. And many young people are unaware that the greatest reason the ERA of 1973 was turned down, is that the liberals tried to sneak in equal rights for homosexuals. So women are not equal, anywhere in the Constitution.

as to the question
I don't know should un-wed father's have to pay child support since they have no say in whether a child is born?
Personally I think we should all have to pay half as much taxes.

YES!!! Brilliant. Maybe then Americans would see that a majority of them treat gay Americans just about how slaves were once treated in this country, though they were considered 3/5 of a person...
