I was just there 10 minutes ago and I get a search box at the left side of the screen.

Yes I believe you need to download the google earth program.

You can download the latest Google Earth version along with a pack of software here: http://www.earth11.com and you can choose which to install of the tools and which not.

did you download google earth to your computer?
set it up?
if all that is done
you should have a search option at the left side
type in what you're searching for - hit enter or search
