During your regular prenatal checkups, did your doctor ever tell you that you need to slow down on your eating because your baby is getting too big? My doctor said that to me yesterday. She said that he is around 1.5 pounds (I'm 22 weeks) and that is too big. I don't see anything wrong with having a big healthy baby? I eat very healthy and at regular intervals. No junk food, plenty of milk & water, and lots of protein. Has this happened to anyone else?

It IS ridiculous!! I don't think 1.5 pounds at 22 weeks is too big....it's only a hair larger than average.

I have been told to slow down my eating because *I* was getting too big, but (no offense) I think your doctor is wrong--the amount you eat shouldn't affect the size of the baby that much. It's making body parts right now, not FAT CELLS!

I know I'm no doctor...but it seems like genetics would dictate size more than diet.

It sounds like you eat the best way. I say you just tell her, "well, if the baby does get big, I guess there's always the c-section--Thank goodness for modern medicine!"

No, My Dr. never said this. I was a high risk pregnancy from the start so had to go in every 2 weeks for a chek and an ultrasound. I ended up gaining 50 pounds! But, much of it was water, however, I am 5'11 inches tall. Granted, I would have a large child. I did have a c-section though. The doctor feared my baby would be too big (almost 10 pounds) and were worried about a natural delivery.

Well, he was 8.10 1/2 ounces and 22 1/2 inches long! Big kid indeed. I was actually 9.10 ounces when I was born and 22 inches long so it only makes sense that my son would be similar. Plus, his father is 6'3.

I am sure your Dr. is trying to do the right thing. if I were you I would certainly keep an eye on what I eat, but don't not let his words worry you too much. There are charts out there that also give you a guideline as to how much you should be gaining each week and how big the "average" baby is.

Yes, I believe a healthy baby is best. You sound as though you have a very good diet already. I am sure he was probably just saying to you what he says to many other expectant women as a precaution.

Very best wishes to you. Try to enjoy every minute-it goes by SO FAST! And, they grow up so quickly afterwards!

I think doctors put too much emphasis on weight gain. I acctaully got chewed out for the other, not gaining enough weight. I think all people are different and some are really gonna gain weight and others are not. If you are eating healthy, which it sounds like you are, I wouldn't be too worried about it. Just continue to see waht she says I guess.

It did not happened to me, actually it was the opposite, my baby was too small, and I only gained 21 pounds during my whole pregnancy. But my friend did and she was supposed to have her baby begginig April, but they are going to induse her labor because she is eating too much, her stomach is big and she has gained so much weight that has placed her labor in risk, take it slow, and follow everything the doctor hads asked you to!

No. Both my babies measured small to average and were born 7 lb at 40 weeks 5 days (girl) and 7 lb 7 oz 39 weeks 5 days (boy). Best of luck.

No, my dr never said this. My son was 8lbs and 5 ozs and he was 2 weeks early, so he would have been around 9lbs. So women are just pre-determined to have bigger babies. Both myself and my brother were 8lbs. If you are eating healthy I wouldn't worry about it.
