It has been slippery here in CO this winter. While she was coming out of the mailroom, she slipped and severely broke her leg, requiring major surgery. She has always been socially embarrassed, almost to a pathological degree. While we were at a restaurant, her menu didn't have laminate, and she was dreadfully embarrassed, because the rest of us did. And I noticed a long time ago that she often laughs at people who fall, or stumble. I've heard of people breaking their legs falling down stairs, but never in a straight fall, just walking, and then slipping to the ground. I think she felt herself slipping, and did some crazy maneuvers, anything to avoid the inevitable, and she overcorrected her balance, resulting in a twisted ankle and a hairline fracture in both bones of her left leg.

I am sure she didn't do anything on purpose! I broke my foot tripping while walking on a sidewalk. In my attempt to not land on my face when I started going down, my foot took all the stress. So yes, your coworker probably really did break her leg, and maybe you are more embarrassed than she is. And maybe she will laugh less at others who fall or stumble.

She probably tried to catch herself from falling, and in doing so twisted her leg in such a way that when she fell she broke her leg. Accidents happen. I live in New England so I'm familiar with ice - generally when you slip on it, you only have a split second to react. Not nearly enough time to think through how you are going to fall to avoid embarrassment.

I think you're the one who is nuts-o. Her menu didn't have laminate? Get a grip. Of course you can break your leg just by slipping and falling to the ground.
Excuse me......were you there? No. I didn't think so.

no, i am sure she really fell. i slipped off the bus last week. it happened so fast (the stairs down was wet). i didn't want to go to work that day so i was not too unhappy about missing work for 2 days. that doesn't mean i threw myself off the bus on purpose, just to have an excuse for a day off.

You know how it is said that what goes around comes around,I believe it to be true having been on the giving and receiving end of my criticisms several times, this is what happened to her, I guarantee she won't be laughing at people falling anymore.

Sounds like a good slip and fall case to me. Hope she has an excellent civil attorney.
