I understand the degree requirements for becoming a teacher, but I need to know what school districts would prefer more: (1) B.S. in History or (2) a B.S. in Criminal Justice with 24 credits hours of History.

The reason I ask is because the place that I am stationed doesn't offer a B.S. in History; instead, it has Criminal Justice with additional courses in History.

At my school if you want to teach history, you take education courses but major in history. Same if you want to do math, english, etc.

In Texas though, criminal justice, I imagine would be okay because I'm guessing it includes all sorts of government, economics, and history. Which I remember high school in Texas and all those classes were required, and history teachers were always encouraged to teach another subject. So I say go for the number 2 option and take some classes in education at the same time so you can get your certifcation.

Good Luck!

I'd be taking more courses in Education, than the specialty you would be teaching. HOW to be a teacher first, THEN what to teach is the way to go.
