As in any profession there are "superstars" and "3rd Stringers", in the practice of law. So, if someone is going to be a lawyer for the money, don't get your expectations up. It is a highly competitive field.

Salaries can range from $35,000 to Unlimited depending on the area of the law you get into. Most lucrative is Medical Malpractice (lawyer claims up to 40% of settlement), followed by criminal law (be sure that fee payment is arranged before trial).

Educational preparation in college should be centered on Social Sciences (History, Political Science, Sociology, etc.), Economics, English, Ethics, and Psychology. After 4 years of college, if you pass the LSAT and are accepted into a law school, you have 3 more years of grueling studies, in a variety of subjects from civil and criminal law to property and injury law, all leading up to the BAR EXAM.

If you don't pass it, all you have is 19 years of study, a tremendous student loan burden, and an uncertain future, most likely as a paralegal.

Unless you like spirited discussion, can hold your own on either side of a question, have a logical, inquiring mind, write well and are able to articulate your thoughts to persuade people to your point of view, then look at something else.

Hope I have been helpful.

YOU should do a project on trying to convince people to NOT be a lawyer. Lawyers are greedy with the money. They don't need to make $200 per hour. That is just pure greed.
