On the backside of my linksys wireless router there are 4 slots to plug in network cables. Can I connect a PC by plugging a cable into the wireless router? (and create a wired network instead of wireless) The wireless signal my PC picks up doesn't seem to be constant.

Yes you can. In fact there should be an option in the router's web interface to turn the wireless off altogether, that way no one mooch off your broadband connection...unless you already have it password protected.

Yes you can... in fact, that's how I use mine!
There are labels on the places you can plug ethernet cables in - and you'll want to go into the router's settings (192.168.0.1) and turn off wireless broadcasting if you're not using it.
Why? So other people can't wirelessly hack into the router and use your internet connection / get into your computer.
You'll also want to see if you can update the "firmware" (programs that run the router) so it's more secure and in some cases faster.

Tip - Ethernet cables cost 5 - 15 dollars in computer stores.... look for them in dollar / discount stores and save yourself some money.

Yes. That is one of the advances to the Linksys. You get both wired and wireless in a single unit.

It will work fine with direct cable connections.
