I was surprised when I read some of the responses to your question. Everyone I've known who has been pregnant has taken Lamaze classes. Why? because it teaches relaxation techniques that really help during delivery but more so because it creates a bond between the mother and the Lamaze partner. You will know that your partner (and it doesn't have to be the father of your child) will be there to help you whether it be by just holding your hand and letting you know you're not alone or coaching you to "breathe" during a contraction. They are committed to being there for you and your baby to be. That is a wonderful bond that develops and it really helps.

it is a joke.....I did it with my first child (I have four) and I tried to do everything I learned during labor but it was a total joke..the breathing exercises do not work one bit.....the only thing that does is DRUGS! lol The only thing good lamaze does is make you feel prepared even though you are not really.....you think you are and that is a good thing because it lessens the fear involved ....so for that reason and that reason alone take the class...but dont expect the breathing exercises to work because they wont.....so dont get worried if you are paying total attention during lamaze because chances are you wont need it anyways .Listen to the section about the epidural and dont be afraid of that either...Thats what everyone was always afraid of was the epidural but trust me when I say that the epidural is your friend and those labor pains are what you should fear most....the epi is a piece of cake that you cant wait for them to give you! good luck I hope u have a healthy happy baby P:)

Ask your doctor they usually provide the classes or know where you should go to sign up and its during your last trimester....

I took the class for my first child. I was so clueless with my first pregnancy that I found it helpful to just get all the info I could. With my second child I didn't need to do any of that because I knew what to expect. I would take it even if it is just for the experience.

I took it with my wife. We learned about the heavy breathing and we still practice in the bedroom years later. I say "Breathe heavy for me baby" while in the midst of love making......
