I work at an after school program and I'm in charge of first graders for an hour and a half. I need some fun things to do with them that wont make a lot of noise. Maybe something to color or a fun activity. Please help.

have them play a game like hot potato or have a coloring contest. or get some body paint and have them make pictures or make something on paper with it.

Silent ball/beanbag is an excellent game for younger children. I use it in my classroom all the time as a time killer. Basically, they toss a ball or beanbag to each other, and the whole time they are silent. Anyone who talks, or giggles is out. The kids have to imagine ways to communicate who they are passing to without actually saying their name.

Another game that I used to play is called statues. The students hold a pose using different props around the room. And the teacher's job is to catch them moving or in transition to another pose.

Lastly, you can try card games like war, (improves math skills) or different games with dominoes by adding and subtracting the dots on the pieces until someone reaches a desired score. (my first/second graders loved this in summer school).

My son is in the first grade!! They just finished a collage in art class! They each made a collage about their favorite healthy foods. I had to send in a bunch of grocery store fliers for him to use. This actvitiy is great because it helps them establish which foods are great snacks and which are treats to eat in moderation! My son loved this activity!!

get a large piece of paper. around 4.5 feet long and have the kids trace a classmate. Then have everyone draw a part of the traced persons' body in.

You can read to them or have them make up a story that you can add to every day.
