If you found it by a lake, it was in or on the grown or water. The condition can not be that great. It will grade from fair to maybe very good at the most. The 1904 had a mintage of 14,600,357. So it is not a scarce item. Check the reverse for a mint mark it would be below the wreath, near the bottom of the coin. There is a 1904-S (San Francisco mint) that had a mintage of only 800,000, that makes it a scarce coin but not rare. The 1904 has a value of $2.25 in grade good to $3.00 in Very good. If the coin has no damage and you can read the full liberty on the head band then it grades higher so check with a dealer. Now the 1904-S in good has a value of $33.00 in good and $55.00 in very good. The values listed are about what a dear will pay. As for PCGS there prices are for coins graded by them, not what is called raw ones, like you have. Raw meaning not professionally graded and encased.

US Barber Dime (Silver dime type 1892-1916)
1904:
G = $4
VG = $5
F = $8
VF = $11
EF = $25
1904-S(small "S" underneath wreath):
G = $45
VG = $75
F = $175
VF = $250
EF = $350
These are coin catalog values; you'll get less if you sell to a coin dealer. Value also depends on whether the coin has been damaged by nature or been cleaned(something which you shouldn't do).
Barber dime grading guide:
G : Good has a heavily worn design. The entire design is well worn with very little detail remaining. The legend is weak but visible. LIBERTY is worn away. The wreath is worn flat but is completely outlined. The corn and grains are worn nearly smooth.
VG : Very Good shows the entire head weak and most of the details in the face are worn smooth. Three letters in LIBERTY are clear. The wreath shows a small amount of detail. The corn and grain are flat. Some of the bow is very weak.
F : Fine shows some detail in the hair, cap and facial features. All letters in LIBERTY are weak but visible. The upper row of leaves is outlined but the bottom row is worn smooth. Some details in the lower leaf clusters are plainly visible. Bow is flat.
VF : Very Fine will show wear spots on the leaves, cap, hair and cheek. The bottom row of leaves is weak but has some visible details. LIBERTY and band are complete. Wear shows on the two bottom leaves, most details are visible. Bow and corn kernals are clear.
EF : Extra Fine shows slight wear on the high points of the upper leaves, cheek and hair above the forehead. LIBERTY is sharp and band edges are bold. High points of the wreath and bow are lightly worn. Lines in the leaves are clearly defined.

search on internet for price or go to a local coin store
from a 2003 Blackbook price guide:
$2 good condition
$6 Fine
$18 ex. fine
if it is marked with an "S"
look under wreath on reverse side
$30 good
$115 fine
$215 ex. fine
nice find!!
it may be worth something!!
the "S" is where the coin was minted,it's the first letter of the city it was made in!

I would get into contact with the PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) They can give you an accurate estimate on the value of the dime.

Take it to a local coin shop that buys and sells coins. They will be able to tell you by its condition and mint mark if it has any value and if it is rare.
