The Luteal Phase is a term that is used in describing the time period that's calculated from the day after ovulation and runs through the remainder of a monthly cycle.
During the luteal phase a women produces progesterone increasing her temperature. The higher temperature acts like an incubator which is important in maturing a fertilized egg if conception has occurred.

Hope this helps answer your question.

The Luteal Phase is the part of your menstrual cycle between when you ovulate and when you menstruate. Most women have a luteal phase that's between ten and sixteen days-it begins with ovulation and ends when your period starts.

Basically the luteal phase is the time between ovulation & your period. It is when implantation occurs in pregnancy. Some women are said to have short luteal phases b/c they have less than 10 days between ovulation & their period which can make implantation more difficult to occur. Hope this Helps!
