How much would Earth’s average temperature have to rise to be significant?

18,000 years ago when the global temperature was only 5 degress less than today, NYC was in an ice age buried under a mile high thick sheet of ice. Of course the temperature in NYC was experiencing much more than a 5 degree drop but NY is a small speck when compared to the planet earth. So a mere two degrees can do quite a bit of damage.
