I have replaced the passenger side front tire about 5 times in 5 years. The tread is never worn; however the inside of the tire always looks like its been opened with a can-opener. what is causing my tire to get cut open?

Well, if you've indeed put 5 different tires on with the same result then it is obviously not the tires fault. Severe inner-edge wear is invariably caused by an out-of-spec wheel alignment. I see this almost every day in my shop. Lack of rotation will contribute to this premature wear as well but its the alignment that is doing most of the damage. I can't believe the shop that is selling you the tires has not suggested this before.

Spend the $70 and take it in for an alignment. This will save you a fortune on tires.

A grinding noise is likely brakes. Get them checked. The tire placed on is likely a blend of below inflation, lack of rotation and alignment. If the tires a all the way down to the metallic wire, get new ones and interior the approach get a alignment. they could then verify the brakes and in the journey that they are undesirable (which i imagine they're), then they could restore it for you.
