it's better for kids to listen to soft music than to read asinine fairy tales about some dumk kid lost in the forest! lol.

They're for over-protective parents who want their kids to feel hopeful.
I remember that I prefer ninja action stories than Snow White when I was small. My mom asked, "What is the chance that you'll become a ninja?" I don't like princess stories so I said, "What is the chance for a Chinese to be a princess?" She gave up and let me read ninja adventures.
It was more for my mother's own ego to grow a perfect daughter than to provide what I wanted.
So it's for over-protective parents.

Many of them are actually based in folklore and tradition. Originally they were for adults as much as children. This is probably more detail than you wanted, but you can check out this link if you want:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairy_tales
