This isn't a gay only forum. This board is for the open exchange of ideas. Some gays have admitted that they report all posters who don't agree with them, hoping to get them kicked off of Yahoo!

Is this right?

If this is a proper behavior, then should straight people who get answers they don't agree with report the poster for abuse? After all, we should treat others as we would like other to treat us, right?

First off, I've not heard of gays doing that, but if they are then I agree with you it's wrong.

Personally, I have no problem with legitimate, respectful questions or even disagreements, but the key word is RESPECTFUL. Some straight people come here solely to aggravate, annoy, insult, threaten and just plain be mean. That's not honest debate nor is it intelligent. There are plenty of people on all sides who are guilty of this nonsense, which sadly ruins it for those of us who come here to honestly converse and exchange ideas.

edit: with respect J J, I welcome straight people to come here and converse, how else to break down the wall between us, and I would hope you would too.

Who exactly are these people who have 'admitted' to it? This is not proper, and they are setting a bad example. I am straight, but I don't report everything I see that is against what I think. I only file abuse reports on people if they use derogatory terms, are overly insulting (I can take a joke), or harassing others. Categories listed in the abuse reports. I accept homosexuality as being perfectly normal.

Don't know if you have noticed, but some of the homophobic trolls form 'reporting gangs'. This means that they band together and focus on reporting one user at a time to get them deleted from Yahoo! Answers. They do this to anyone who does not agree with their hateful message.

So, if the people who allegedly admitted did report them, they would just be returning the favor.

Oh, and J J, the homophobes and trolls came into this area. Yahoo! won't do anything.

I agree that open communication between gays and straights (and what have you) should be the goal. I've suggested that the "thumbs down" function should differentiate between disagreeing with an opinion and denoting that the answer was simply factually wrong or inappropriate.

I think J J just misinterpreted the question, as I did at first glance. It IS a LGBT-only forum topic-wise, but it's open to all participants, gay, straight and questioning.

I'm not sure about that... I accept all answers and have never really reported anyone, I get mad at some questions and answers I see because they're offensive but the whole point of this is for answers to problems, so I try and keep an open mind (yes, I'm one of the gays on here)

You have failed to discern the difference between the behavior patterns.

Some "straight" people come here to bash LGBT people, defame them, call them epithets and slurs, and do other hate speech. LGBT people then defend themselves.

I have rarely, if ever, seen a question here where an LGBT person has the intent to defame, mock, slur and perform hate speech against all straight people. Quite frankly, most of the LGBT users of this forum seem too intelligent for such ignorant bigotry.

Hate speech is against Yahoo's TOS, and people who do it should be reported. Hate speech is not an "exchange of ideas," and is not supported by the Constitution, as its main purpose is to harm others and foment violence.

Hopefully I have clarified this for you, and prejudicial bigots who choose to post here can either:
1) keep their hate speech to themselves, or
2) resign themselves to getting their accounts deleted in violation of the TOS.

It's their choice.

AS with all things you are going to write or have posted on this particular web site, read the rules and/or community guidelines. If you violate the policies, then you should get punished for that. For posting an answer or even you own opinion, no one under the bill of rights can willfully or get away with censoring you for your opinion/s, the answers must conform to community guidelines when answering! If someone or people are willfully mis-reporting people for their answers and opinions, then those reporters should suffer the consequences of their actions. And yes, you should treat ALL people as you want treated!!!

Yes, the Golden Rule. Treat others the way you want to be treated. I for one really like straight people. Actually, if it weren't for straight people, I would not be here. Unfortunately many gay people have been hurt by uncaring, unfair and sometimes blatantly mean people. The natural reaction is to circle the wagons and surround yourself by people like yourself.

The main complaint that people have on this forum is the trolls. Trolls have been thick with venom lately on this forum and many of the people here are fed up with the blatant trash talk.

You do know that you are posting in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered section of Yahoo answers don't you? Ask Yahoo to create a section for you and other people who feel the same way as you and those of us in this community will never come over to your section and harass you.
