The 3 main theories are as follows. Weberianism ( Max Weber), which is the social action theory, which has a muli-class model of society where economic divisions are important then there is Marxism ( Karl Marx) capitalist theory, where there are 2 main classes (proletariat - workers and the bourgeoisie - owners) who are mutually antagonistic but ultimately rely on each other to survive. Finally, functionalism (Talcott Parsons) - who see it as operating like a living organism, where each part depends on another.

Hope this helps :)

There is only one main (which is to say, worth anything) sociological theory of (social) stratification:

Stratification exists in order to reproduce its own conditions of existence.

Think about it, from the point of view of - sparsely populated - groups in high-wealth strata; and from that of groups in - heavily populated - low-wealth strata!

It sucks!

What kind of stratification are you refering to?

Gender? --> Feminism
Class? --> Marxism and Neo-Hobbesianism
Race? --> Critical Race Theory
Minorities --> Conflict Theory

You must be more specific...

You are persistent! :) For any social issue, you will find two explanations, functionalism and conflict theory. Look at ANY intro textbook, you'll find a chapter on stratification explaining these two viewpoints.
