Are you talking about film directors, theatre directors, or both? Film directors can get awards from (among others) the Academy, the Directors Guild of America, the Venice Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, Berlin Film Festival, and Sundance. Stage directors can get Tonys, Obies (Off-Broadway), and Oliviers (British stage productions), for starters.

If you are looking to become a director in order to get an award,
do yourself a favor and don't bother.

Just be happy to be directing.

And besides if Al Gore can get an Oscar for that documentary piece
of putrescence he did, it's not worth having.

On a personal note, i just want to direct movies, preferably my
own.
