If you are 'trying to conceive' then you should actually not 'lay down' but you should put your 'butt' in the air and your knees on the bed, and put your head 'down' with your arms crossed under it ... use a pillow if you want under your head, and also if you can use 'pillows' to help hold your 'butt' in the air ... this helps the 'semen' to get to the 'egg' since it puts the 'ovaries' and fallopian tubes 'below' the vagina ... and you should stay there for at least 30 minutes.

If you're actively trying to get pregnant, I'd say lay down with your hips elevated for 30 minutes will help. That being said, you can get pregnant if you get up after a few seconds. I'm just saying that laying down with your hips elevated will increase your odds.

Ok so I watched this show on the health channel once about human sexuality etc..it was very interesting and one of the things they said to do was to have an orgasm after the man has ejaculated because this helps the cervix dip down into the sprem and increases the chances of pregnancy!

You don't have to be lying down at all.....but laying down for 30 minutes is said to increase your chances if you are trying to have a baby.

You don't have to lay down at all...
standing up does just fine too!

P. S I just read 'Mia Bella's' answer too and she's absolutely right about the orgasm after the man, as the cervix 'dips down' into the sperm to 'suck it up'!!

The longer you lay down the longer gravity dosen't work against you. But even if you get right up you can still get pregnant.

No, unless the man has issues with sperm motility. Realisitically with healthy sperm by the time he has withdrawn his penis most of the sperm that is ever going to cross the cervix has done so. Remember men keep thrusting while they come.

You could stand up during and after sex and it wouldn't really make a difference. The little soldiers know where to go either way.

They suggest lying down for about 15 min. afterward. It takes the sperm a bit to acclimate to the ph of your body......and gravity will help them swim up a bit easier.
