hi Blu i think of this is a wierd analogy stating that something as impressive as love/cake can disappear or get washed away even after nurturing/baking the sensation for see you later and doubting if he will ever have the potential to sense the comparable returned. Jimmy Webb could desire to have been fairly down in the dumps while he wrote it.
