Ask your professors, friends, parents/relatives etc. if they can find someone (personal contact) who can give you a low-paying temporary job (like internship or training program) and which can later become a full-time job depending on whether the company likes you and feels you are an indispensable asset for them.

That is how I and my friends got internships.

I would say join the Merchant Marines, or a Mariner School.
