I need a motel booking to pay cash upon arrival on the 2/03/2007. Either in dollars or pounds. please reply asap

try using yen, any hotel will give you a terrible exchange rate.

Generally speaking, hotels and motels in Japan don't accept currency other than Japanese yen. You might be able to convert the cash from US$ or pounds to yen at the hotel, but you get a worse conversion rate than if you're using traveller's checks.

Also, where in Japan? It's a pretty big place, and it might take hours to get from city to city depending on where you'll be.

Motel? Good luck. Try a Capsule Hotel. It is a small tube with a bed in it. No joke.
