I recommend you do a little research with the Business Opportunity Search Engine. Being community driven it’s a cross between a search engine and a Wikipedia. You can add, delete and improve the results for much more focused answers than a general search engine can provide. http://www.BusinessOpportunitySearchEngine.com

I am curious which business you just started. Usually, when choosing a business, you go by a product that really gets you stoked! You need to be really excited about what you have and want to share it with everyone! You have to be able to "See" what the benefits are and why your product is better than others, so that you can tell people about it with your chin held high.
If you are very unsure, you have started the wrong business.
Also, your company should come with full training and mentoring in place. When I sign someone new into my company, I do a mini-interview to find out what they want to achieve. Then I show them how to get there and give them ideas. I also get them to make a list of their prospects, and then I 3-way them, sponsor their new prospect and they listen in to see how it is done. We have an entire team that keeps in touch with them and helps them because some ideas work better than others for each person.
I'm a little worried that you have been left swinging in the wind here, let me know who you are with and perhaps I can direct you to someone who can give you a hand.

Small Business Marketing Strategy: Target the up-and-coming search engines
While Google still rules the roost when it comes to Internet search engines, and Yahoo is firmly entrenched in second spot, a number of new start-ups are hoping to give them a run for their money. And a good small business marketing strategy would be to check them out and see how you can make them work for your site!
Some of the new up-and-comers include:
Powerset (www.powerset.com): A "natural language" search engine
Hakia (www.hakia.com): A "meaning-based" search engine
Wikia(www.wikia.com): A "community-based" search engine
ChaCha(www.chacha.com): A "social networking-based" search engine
Snap (www.snap.com): A search engine that offers visual previews
It's a smart small business marketing strategy to continue optimizing for the Google, Yahoo, and MSN search engines as they are by far and away the most popular -- but niche search engines could provide new opportunities to reach your market. Be sure to check them out!

You need to sell a product that people need.
Its really not hard.
Here is an idea:
Sell Mirco-Fiber Towels.
You can buy them from this wholesale web-site with no memebrship fees at all. Simply buy for a cheap price and re-sell for $6 ea
You would target Home cleaners, Janitors, Churches wanting to do fundraisers, Car detail shops.
To market yourself you can get a free web-site on Yahoo and get free business card on Vistaprint
You can buy as little as 5 to see if you can sell them ...
MOre you can buy , more of a price break you get.
These are the same ones you see on TV infomercials, but this web-site you get them musch cheaper per piece.(half as much)
I encourage you to try it out….hope this helps…Steve

I’ve done some excellent research on home based business and finally placed all my findings on a blog:
http://themission-makemoney.blogspot.com/
I’m currently making $500 - $700.00 a month off of each one of the sites below. Once you have signed up you can refer other friends and if they sign up you can make money off them 20% and if they refer people you can make 10% off those. I have just started so my income intake is not very high but hey it gives you few extra hundred a month for doing practically nothing. They send a check every 20 days. You need a minimum of $5.00 to get a check on cashcrate and $20.00 on treasure trooper. It's also free to sign up.

Use the best, cheapest and most reliable marketing method, it is called word of mouth recommendation.
If what your business does is good ask your friends and people you know to do you a huge favour and try what it is you do.
If they then like it then ask for referrals, they will have friends, who have friends, who have friends etc.
Provided your product or service is good you will find people love to recommend things to their friends.
It is what I do, if you want you can contact me through my 360 profile
