My family went from very well off to very poor two years ago and my kids have done a fabulous job adjusting. For the first time in two years, I have a little bit of money saved up.

Should I save it for a rainy day or should I take my kids to Disneyland for the weekend? They have never complained and have been real troopers through the addictions, divorce, sickness, death and separation that have occured over the past two years and I really think they deserve a little break.

What would you do?

Why does it have to be either/or?

Save a lot of the money and use a small amount for a special treat....doesn't have to be as big as a weekend at Disney.

Be smart, that money may be needed in the times ahead. You know that feeling in the pit of your stomach when you don't have money for the bare necessities? Remember that feeling when you think about spending the money on frivilous things. Walt Disney already has enough money, no need to contribute more ;)

I would save it because I am more of a saver than a spender
but it sounds like your family needs a break so take a vacation.

Use 1/2 of it to take them somewhere fun and save the rest.

I would save it for their education. You can treat them to something that is not so expensive like a day at the park, going bowling or something like that. Sound like great kids!

Sounds as if you are in California. My kids favored Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park and Sea World in San Diego.

Go for it.

Learn from the past and put it into savings. Buy them something small, but put the majority of it away.

Wow, it sounds like you have some great kids. Treat them, they deserve it. Or maybe you should ask them for suggestions, they may suprise you. Take care.
