I'm looking to try out new singers and stuff. If I like Carrie Underwood or Shakira or something like that, who should I start listening to.

If you like female singers check out anything by Garbage or Evanescence, both of whom have new cds out. Otherwise, Gwen Stefani is a pretty big deal these days.

If you like the pop country girl thing, I'd try out Melanie Doane or Shay if you can find them. Both are fairly unknown, but they're also quite good. Also, "Jesus Take the Wheel", the song that won Carrie Underwood her grammy and that other award (country music award maybe?) were written by Gordie Sampson who also wrote a lot of the songs on the Shay cd. Gordie Sampson on his own can be quite good too -- check out Sunburn -- good tune and easy to sing to in the car.
