A company will be looking to hire someone that fits their corporate profile.
If you are a cashier in a Goth clothing store, or piercing emporium, it actually may be in your favour to look as you do. But if you were in a corporate setting, such as an office, or in any other public-facing position, such as foodservice, customer service, etc., you would probably be at a disadvantage.

It depends upon the kind of job. If this is a job you don't really care much about well you can test it and see what the employer thinks about your looks.
I am a Career Counselor at a major mid-western university, I 've been here for 22yrs and I can tell you my young friend as you get older and look for a full-time career job being Gothic or anything else will not work. As unfair as it may seem, business, wheter for-profit or non-profit is conservative. they are looking for people who can bring value to wha they do and part of that is image.
Does your image hellp or hurt an employer that is what they will be asking themselves...it won't change it is part of human nature.
So, again...I don't know what type or level of job your looking for but basically lose the look at work.
all the best

Yes I think you should since society has a predetermined view of what professional people should look like so you should try to make a good first impression. Once you've got the job and have worked there for a while and proven yourself as being a valuable asset and got to know everyone well you could gradually start wearing what you like again. However I would always keep it toned down a bit.

No matter what age you are, the first impression will ALWAYS prevail. If your first impression is make-up, and facial jewelry, your potential might associate that with a hooligan (I can't believe I wrote hooligan).
I am a little torn on this, because you need to be true to yourself, but you also need to get a job. I guess, to start off when looking take it all out (no make-up, no jewelry) and be true about your personality. What you wear does not define your personality, and if you have a great personality, then later on discussing the jewelry, etc shouldn't be a problem!
Good luck!

if you intend on keeping your look, i would suggest some places like hot topic in the mall, or working in the back. Most companies don't deem the look of gothic as a presentable front salesperson, so jobs that require a lot of contact with others will be difficult. I personally have nothing against your look, but your job opportunities are limited by societies view on presentability.

If you are just looking for a job, lose the make-up and pIErcings. Once interviewed, if they ask you if you have questions you can ask what their policy is on piercings, if the answer would be a determining factor to you taking the job if offered. If you would take it no matter what wait until you are hired and then ask. Also remember to dress a step above the job requirements.
ie. Jeans job, you wear khaki's and a nice shirt,
khaki job, you wear nice khakis or slacks and dress shirt
slacks job, interview in suit and tie, or slacks, dress shirt and tie.

What kind of job? Did you already have your interview & get the job? I say hold off on the make-up but leave your piercings in for the interview and ask them if they'd prefer you to take the piercings out or get clear jewelry.

It depends on where you're working. Most work places will require you to take out most if not all of your piercings. And you should probably at least tone down the make up. I would recommend taking out all piercings and wearing no make up to the interview and then asking AFTER you get the job. I know where I work we couldn't even wear colored fingernail polish.

It depends on where you want to work. If you are applying at a store like Nirvana that caters to Goths you're probably OK.
If you want to work in a more mainline store or somewhere else you need to blend in with the other employees.
Many large companies have dress codes that prohibit multiple piercings and stuff.
Good luck.

Call me old fashion, but yes. I am a supervisor at a restaurant and we do not hire anyone with facial piercings or gothic make-up.
