While cigarette smoke contains more toxic chemicals including cyanide, inhaling the exhaust fumes of a car contains more carbon monoxide and heavier concentrations of other gases and will be lethal in the short run more so than second-hand cigaret smoke. This is why people choose exhaust fumes over cigarette smoke for suicide. Car exhaust is worse than cigarettes. Neither are good for us.

I have no idea, but the danger is probably in the quantity. One cigarette puts out less smoke than one car engine.

Say you're locked in a big garage with limited air. If you smoke one cigarette, you will probably not die, because there I'm guessing there are not enough toxins in a single cigarette to kill you (the chemicals can affect your health later on) and you will likely maintain a decent supply of air.

But say you turn on a car for the same amount of time in this garage and let the exhaust fill the room. Then you may die because cars release a ton of carbon monoxide, which inhibits the body's ability to acquire oxygen. Some people even commit suicide this way. Others smoke for 20 years for the same effect.

It's all a matter of quantity. I'm guessing that cars are more numerous and in our society and put toxins into the air at a faster rate than smoked tobacco.

Well, car exhaust can kill you IMMEDIATELY and cigarettes only kill you over time. So, I would have to say car exhaust.

However, there are many reports about kids getting asthma and people developing severe respiratory problems from exhaust fumes. Cigarettes ARE bad for you. I admit that even though I smoke myself. However, car exhaust is hurting us and killing our planet way faster than cigs. Besides, with all the research being done on the health effects of cigarette smoke, has anyone ever taken into account the fact that in addition to the cigs, we are breathing in tons of toxic pollution and stuff like automobile and truck exhaust everyday??? Maybe it's a combination of both.

Anyway, I'm goning to def say exhaust.

Cigarette smoke can take years, even decades to kill you.

Car exhaust (Carbon Monoxide) under the right circumstances (a closed area such as a garage can kill you within minutes.

If left in a smokey room for 15 minutes....the damage is minimal as long as you don't live in it all the time.

If left in a garage filled with car exhaust for 15 minutes...you will DIE!

You be the judge!
