My husband will soon be 40 and I am thinking of renting a cinema and showing a film as a special surprise for him and guests. I was originally thinking of American Beauty, since it is about a guy in his 40s and one of my husband's favourite films, but realise now that it might be a bit too risky given the variety of guests we will be expecting. I have been looking at films from 1967 and so on, but nothing seems right just yet. Any suggestions?

If I remember correctly, "City Slickers" starts with Mitch's 40th birthday, and the mid-life crisis he has surrounding that. It's also funny, and pretty good for a diverse audience.

Back to the future! It's such a great movie and your husband would have enjoyed it first time round.
Or maybe some other great eighties movie like Ferris Beuller's day off, Weird Science, Top Gun? Another idea is to pick a film from the year of his birth, what won the oscar that year? Anyway the renting a cinema thing is a really cool idea, good luck with the planning!

Tombstone is one of those Western movies I can't stop watching. It's an old movie, but it's a classic.

I would play safe.....take him to a footie match, then on to the pub afterwards...............maybe really push the boat out, and go for an Indian meal...............

My hubby would have been really pleased with that.............

It's my hubby's 50th this year, and I've booked a cruise to Alaska.......he's well made up!
