The armies of those days were lead entirely by men, and the french leaders were slow to follow her into battle simply because she was a woman. So... she dressed like them and kept her hair short so they would be a bit more acceptable of her appearance.

at those times,it was impossible just to think about a female soldier... Women had very few rights,let alone joinig the army! But she wanted to fight for her ideals and ideas,so she dressed as a guy in order to take the leadership and set France free.

Because women were thought of as inferior, and no military would follow a woman. So she had to dress and act as a man

Why would you THINK she would not HAVE to wear a man's suite of armor to lead an army? Last time I looked, suites of armor didn't come in PINK.!
