Yeah I understand there are various things a receptionist does but don't make yoruself seem all that and I am nothing because I am a receptionist. The accountant comes in twice a week and I am always doing her job of posting credit cards transactions .

I'm in the same boat. Speak up or deal with it. I spoke up and now they are hiring someone to be receptionist and I'm getting a 5% raise.

Posting credit card transactions into Quickbooks is very easy data entry, which pays no better than a receptionist.

When you file all payroll documents, what exactly does that mean? Are you actively involved in preparing the checks, pay stubs and payroll tax documents and payments? Or are you just filling in the form for number of hours worked per employee and sending that off to the payroll service, and then mailing out the checks and forms that are returned?

The first would be the work of a payroll clerk, and the second would be receptionist and general office work.

Off hand, I'd say what you are doing falls into the category of receptionist / general office.

The job of a receptionist is not only to answer phones! Doing a receptionis job means filing, inputting data, and many other things. So don't feel bad because your not the only one!

Many things can get involved here. Are you a union shop? If so they can help...if not...can you reason with your boss? If not, you may have to look for something else that pays according to your skill level.
