Instructions
STEP 1: Use your turn signal to indicate the direction of the parking spot.

STEP 2: If the space is not yet vacant but the car in it is about to leave, wait behind the spot.

STEP 3: When the space is vacant, pull ahead of it until you have pulled up beside the car parked in front of the space. Your rear bumper should be even with that car's rear bumper with about 2 feet of road between you.

STEP 4: Put the car in reverse. Begin to back up slowly; as soon as the car starts moving, turn the wheel as far as it will go toward the curb.

STEP 5: Back slowly into the space.

TEP 6: When the back of your car's front door is even with the rear bumper of the car beside you, begin turning the wheel away from the curb.

STEP 7: Continue turning the wheel away from the curb and backing slowly into the space.

STEP 8: Straighten out the wheel, then pull forward or back in the space as needed to center yourself between the cars in front of and behind you. Your car should be 6 to 8 inches from the curb when you are parked.

Tips & Warnings
Go slowly.
If you aren't sure whether you'll fit in the space, pull up beside it and size it up first.
If it's a tight fit, get a passenger or a passing pedestrian to guide you.
Many cities will issue a citation for vehicles parked more than 18 inches from the curb.

On the right side of the road:
Pull level (rear bumpers) with the car you want to park behind.
While backing slowly (to make turning the wheel easier) turn 1 1/2 turns to the right.
Now slowly back up until your front bumper is level with the rear bumper of the car you'll park behind.
From here back up slowly and turn the wheel (continuously) to the left until you come to the end of the steering wheel turn.
The car should end up about 3" to 6" from the curb.
Make sure first of course, that you have enough space for your car.

You are supposed to pull up to the car in front of the spot you want, far enough so that you are aligned with their side mirror. Then you SLOWLY back up and begin to turn your wheels towards the curb. If you're doing it right, you end up almost completely in the spot. Then you move forward, SLOWLY, until you're straight. Of course, this was the only part of the driving test I failed, but it was leaving the space, not getting into it! And I have since successfully parellel-parked numerous times! good luck!

It is in the driver's handbook. It is exact. Pull up even to car in front or rear bumper even with the front of the parking space. Brake, engage reverse and turn to face over your right shoulder. Back while turning to the right until the door is even with the front of the space. Straighten the wheels and begin turning to the left while backing the rest of the way. If you do this smoothly you will not need to pull forward.
The key is smoothly, one motion, and watch both ends of the car.
