Of course Kobe and like you i'm not just saying that because i'm a kobe and lakers fan but i mean come on...... To me Kobe is a better scorer, rebounder, and just overall better player. Although Jordan could score, Kobe has the ability to score however and whenever he wants. If he wants to score 15 he will if her wants to score 51 he will. He is also a better defensive player than Jordan was. Look at how many times he has made the all defensive team? and on the plus side he's only 28 years old!!! Many people want to throw in the fact that Jordan won 6 champs. Big deal? I guess now you want to say that players like Karl Malone, KG, A.I. and Reggie Miller weren't good players since they didnt win any rings. Rings has nothing to do with it! To me people just don't want to admit that Kobe is a better player than Jordan because they feel threatened and don't want anyone to take his place. Now you can say whatever you want to but Kobe Bryant is the best player to ever play in the NBA. Go Kobe!!!

Right now I can't say...let's talk again in 5 years. Why? If for some amazing reason Kobe and his lakers reel off 4 titles in a row or Kobe gets 3 more in a row then we can talk about equality with MJ. Right now Kobe was on the right team at the right time with the most dominant player in the NBA in his prime. That makes for a great combination. After further consideration I'll go with MJ. If Kobe doesn't have SHAQ none of the 3 titles happen period. End of the story. Kobe is not MJ, nor is he better than MJ. I don't know why we even keep comparing the two players to each other.

If you say right now, MJ has to be the better of the two hands down. He won 6 rings being 'the man' on all of the teams where Kobe was second fiddle to Shaq.
However, Kobe has a team right now very much like the Bulls (Odom is his Scotty, Parker is a poor mans BJ or Ron Harper, Kwame and Byrum could spell Ho Grant or the Worm plus the same head coach to boot), so if he could start getting rings now with this team, he could possibly be up there. Lets not forget that the West right now is tougher than the East was back than except for maybe at the begining of the Bulls rings when the C's and Pistons still had tough teams and Cleveland was ok, however, they have nothing on the West today with the Sun's, Mavs and Spurs...

If you're going strictly on skill set, then kobe is the better player. He is more developed as a player then Jordan was at this time. But if you're going on intangibles ( mindset, leadership, etc.) then you go with Jordan. If it is a one on one then I'll go with Kobe, but if I had to pick a shooting guard for a team, then I'll go with jordan. Not to dis-credit what jordan has done , but you can't just go on strictly championships. I think there is more competition in the NBA now and the level of athleticism between players are more equal. Jordan was more big and athletic than his counterpart on most nights, but if he played today, although he would still be an all-star, he would not dominate oponents the way he did. Jordan put a fear in most oponents, but players today don't fear anyone and they can score on you just as easily as you can score on them. Besides, I don't think any of the Bulls teams would have matched up well with the Kobe-Shaq Lakers. This is strictly un-biased because I hate the Lakers!

i believe Jordan is better for the moment but as who will be better when Kobe finishes his career i don't know. Phil is teaching Kobe much the same things that he taught MJ. and whoever said that MJ won a championship by himself is crazy! Pippen, Kerr, Rodman?

I think that Mj would feel that question was disrespectful
Because Michael has 6 nba championships (3 more than kobe)
5 more all star nominations than Kobe
11 times all nba selection
Is mentally more strong than Bryant
and many more reasons
Michael Jordan is WAY better than Kobe

ok i respect mj styll but kobe is a better overall player. the only reason why mj won 6 championships because he was with scottie pippen and didn't you hear when they were planning to trade scotte pippen jordan said he's going to retire so that tells something he needed scottie pippen. last year kobe carried his team to the playoffs because no 1 in the team stepped up only he did. in the playoffs last round you saw what happened when kobe didn't shoot the ball the team sucked and barley did anything so that tells you something they need kobe to score.

I have to disagree. First of all MJ was a much better defender than Kobe, in fact he was the 87-88 Defensive Player of the year, an honor which Kobe has never and will never receive.
I know that the saying, "He makes people around him better" is a cliche, but if you could only say it about one player, would you really pick anyone but His Airness? And come on, look at the career stats:
ppg rpg apg spg bpg fg%
MJ 30.1 6.2 5.3 2.35 .80 .497
Kobe 24.2 5.2 4.5 1.50 .50 .452
MJ is better in every statistical category except free throw % where Kobe is better by .002.
Lastly, 6 rings. 6. With the team squarely on his shoulders.

Kobe is good, but MJ is better. Jordan new how to make everyone else around him better, that's something Kobe needs to do.
