It depends if you are sensing that the patient is distressed over the prospect of having to go under anesthesia or what exactly they might be worrying about if anything. I have had several ops and just don't fear anything about it. That is just me. Some people are honestly afraid that something will go wrong. In that case, I think that the best thing to say is that you are sure that everything will be fine and that you are diligently praying for the doctors and nurses and them. If we put our complete trust in God who is the only one in ultimate control and who has the power to make things right, and I mean absolute faith, then that is the very best thing you can do. He even provides the faith to believe in Him if you but humbly ask for it. If the patient is very concerned about him or herself they will welcome this approach. If they are not believers and don't particularly have anxiety over this surgery and you are not a believer and don't care to be one, then just simply say: "I am here and I will be waiting for you; all is well and all will be well".~Nancy Nurse

Something as innocuous as "Good Luck" could cause worry in some people. What I usually say is, "See you in a bit." That conveys there is nothing to be worried about, that the surgery will be a success, and that you will see them when they wake up. It's reassuring.
